Ontarv, what is your induction? Carbs / EFI ?
Does it run well 10:1 on Premium ?
    thank you for the reply.
From what you have told me - I would like to try 9.6:1 and some head mods,
the EFI and see if I can run standard Unleaded...
[ have you heard of Singh Grooves in the head ? ]

Why would you run standard (third world commodore standard) petrol?

Yup it costs a couple of cents more per litre, but the car goes faster, travells further and you dont crack manifolds etc.l

Actually you raise a good point, I will have to do a test to see how L/100 km
goes comparing optimum and Standard 91......
    and then comparing the " aweful " E10 .... 10% ethanol .
Will probably find that $ per kilometer will put premium on top / then 91 / then E10.....keen to find out.

The octane rating of the fuel will not matter in the final build as I am doing things [ additives , mods .....]
that will seem as if the octane rating is higher - I love to experiment.
I havent blown my Beetle motor yet and its way weaker motor.
If the tests dont work out - I'll be buying Optimum and enjoying the extra power : )
    -
Have you still got those bigger rear Drums for my Scirocco , Golf Loon ? . Mine will need larger than standard drums,
they are too scary when carrying a few people.

The " cracking manifolds " issue , I guess thats exhaust manifold.
Is that due to running too hot?

    Singh Grooves. Run More compression.!

I mentioned Singh Grooves, this is the link to this Brilliant Man's site.
    http://somender-singh.com/
This site has a small link on the right side to Pics 2005.
You will see what people do to achieve this Improvement.
    -
The grooves in the Head allow you to run Higher Compression without the
problems usually associated with doing this. The grooves allow for more complete burn of fuel.
I will be adding water injection and other things - and this grooving also assists
    these additives as well.

Yeah I have some rear drums for you Glenn, dont leave it too long tho.

I have seen lots of cracked manifolds from using normal unleaded. It makes em get hotter and so break. God knows what it does to the rest of the engine. Use 98 octane. Or at least 95 with a carby.

A year and a half , and so Little done on my next car.
I am planning on taking some time off work to get this " Moving ".
Was hoping Oval Beetle prices would have gone crazy high by now
to Aid injecting lots of funds into this project..........Alas , dont think
I will get much for my Oval [ well used, requiring paint- 1916cc].
Been doing little bits on the Rocco, and it is in pretty good shape.
So shouldnt take too long to get it together.
Motor runs beautifully, has a nice note - got to love those Dells.
