Rear Window Won't Go Up MK3 GL

    Hey Guys,

Recently my rear passenger window decided to break and the motor seems to work fine as I can hear it go up and down. When I use the window switch to put it all the way down, I hear a loud click as it reconnects to the carrier for the window, and the windows goes up about 2cm then drops back down again; and the process repeats until I go inside cursing profanities

What would you say that the solution to this is. I took it to the auto electrician today and i got quoted a new window regulator for $150 plus $90 labour to install it. Is this the way to go or is there a cheaper way?

P.S. Here is a window regulator on ebay I found that is cheaper than the quote:

You can fix that problem with a cable tie and about 30 minutes of your time.

Just search for the window regulator fix. I think it could be in the mk3 DIY thread as well.

So I can do it cheap? YES!

I will look for the fix and see how I go

EDIT: I couldn't find a fix for it by searching. Anyone care to share the cable tie fix. In high detail as I am a bit of a newb

    Cheers

    Hey Guys,
I think this is old but I seem to be having the same problem. Unfortunately photobucket strikes again and I can't see any of the photos.

Does anyone have any pics or could someone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks

I have pics somewhere, but don't do the cable tie fix. It will eventually fail on you.
If your motor is fine just get the metal mechanism that moves the window up and down (regulator). They're about $60 but you might find them cheaper and you can drive in peace.
As a temporary measure you can take out the existing regulator and put a bolt and nut with a few washers through the top regulator mounting point.
