Has anyone gone up a size in tyer width? On their stock rim?

Say you have a 235 and go to a 255 265 or dare i say 275.

Alot of guys asking about increasing the rim size or a wider track but nothing on just changing the tyer on the stock rim.

Why do you want more tire?

Btw you can't just add as much tire as possible. If the stock tire is 235, you could probably go 245. 255 might not fit, and if it did, it would look stupid because the tire overhangs the rim like a beach buggy.

For the same reason guys want to go up a size in rim or to increase their track. If you can get more width why not? Right you would probably not notice any difference in grip, but anyway.

I dont think there is anyway you would be able to notice any ' boldge ' on an 5mm a side from 235 to 245 especially on only a 35 wall.

Having more tire is not always a good thing and does not mean further grip.

Again Its not about the grip. If you want more grip just get a softer rubber.

If you add more width you also add more diameter for the same profile.

So for example:

235/40R18 has diameter 645.2mm
245/40R18 has diameter 653.2mm (-1.22% speedo error)
255/40R18 has diameter 661.2mm (-2.42% speedo error)
265/40R18 has diameter 669.2mm (-3.59% speedo error)
275/40R18 has diameter 677.2mm (-4.73% speedo error)

So you're better off going lower aspect ratio when you go wider to keep the same/similar diameter

255/35R18 has diameter 635.7mm (+1.49% speedo error)
265/35R18 has diameter 642.7mm (+0.39% speedo error)
275/35R18 has diameter 649.7mm (-0.69% speedo error)

But the other things to consider are whether the tyres will fit on the rims.

And finally there's the question of fitting the wider tyre/rim width under your guards. I'd suggest you use one of the online tyre/rim calculators like willtheyfit.com
