Looking for good reference on "Performance Chip" makers for Polo 6R 66 TDI

There seams to be so many brands of aftermarket computer chip/box reprogramming not sure who to pick.

They advertise big gains of 30% more power while also being able drive more economical using higher gears improving mileage by 15%.

My concern with the increase in diesel fuel for more power also increases exhaust gas temperatures through the roof, which could cause a major engine component failure.

Who do you guys think offers the best solution?

A proper tune will take into account your EGT's, something any plug in tuning box most likely will struggle to do. Any proper tune developing real power won't give much fuel economy increase, as indeed you are using extra fuel to make that power. My TDI on a full bore race file gives stock economy, but the performance difference is just massive. You can indeed get the best of both with a mild or mid level tune, but most people want max power unless they drive a lot of miles and are looking to save $$.

Good luck picking a tuner, but generally any out of the UK / Europe are the best for euro diesels.

I would suggest that you avoid the cheap and nasty plug in style "tuning boxes" and go with a proper remap which is loaded onto your cars ECU.

I know DNA Tuning have a tune available for the 1.6TDI (see screenshot from their Facebook page below) and they have a dealer in Melbourne which is handy for you.

I bought one almost a year ago for my 2.0 TDI. It's fantastic and increased my power by quite a lot on the highest setting. I have noticed an increase in diesel black smoke but that was to be expected from more diesel being pumped in. That's essentially what the chip does, increase the amount of diesel put in.

I think if I knew earlier though I would look into getting an actual tune. There are a few places around that do Diesel engines. I wasn't a member of the forum when I bought my chip, so I didn't know all the details back then.

Depending what you want it for, it will increase performance. Maybe ask about an actual tune as well.

I bought mine from ChipExpress in the UK. I do like it though.

    Do not buy a chip.

Get a tune from a reputable tuner.

If you have any of the DPF regeneration issues that some 6R TDi owners have complained about, I would not get a tune and DEFINITELY not get a tuning box/chip.

It is possible to get a tune that does not cause additional fuelling at low boost and rpm but I would imagine that such a tune would not be very responsive with low accelerator/rpm situations since the turbo needs combustion to spool.

A tuning box/chip works by making the ECU think the engine is running lean so it overfuels it which is almost guaranteed to cause you DPF to regenerate far more often.

Mr Roles is too well behaved to market his company's tunes in this thread so I'lll do it for him. Viezu tunes are great for diesels and have transformed my 9N3 Polo TDi - Carformance sells them (along with other Viezu dealers). Contact

to find the Melbourne dealer (I bought my tunes direct from the UK before Viezu had a distributor here).

BTW John at DNA Tuning is also a great guy and I believe that their tunes are very good too.

I can also second the Viezu recommendation from Kaanage, great to deal with and great tuners of diesel vehicles.

Viezu is a must, brilliant power and better fuel economy, Greg Roles in Brisbane is the best!!
