What to do with my B5 Passat

The gearbox on the Passat has died so I'm looking to upgrade the mechanicals.

It's a bog standard 1.8 20v (non turbo) with a 4 speed auto. I'd like to fit a 1.8 turbo with a 5 speed manual box but I'll settle for an auto if I can't find a manual.

Is it worth finding the parts and doing a transplant or should I just buy a B5 with the specs I want?

    Cheers

    Paul

That's what I was thinking and I'm getting too old/lazy to be doing engine swaps. Plus working out the ECU to suit would do my head in.

    Took the easy option.

$300 ebay bargain. 2000 wagon with 5 speed manual and 1.8 (non turbo). Supposed to have a blown head gasket but turned out to be just a faulty MAF.
