A Tiguan R makes a lot of sense, and I think it would be smart to develop one. Personally I hope they don't as it would devalue the R-Line somewhat

It would definitely work in Australia, if you offered an SUV with performance somewhere between the Tiguan 162TSI and an SQ5 then you'd be on a winner. It would provide an option for those who can't afford an Audi performance model but want a decent performance focused practical car. I doubt it would bite into Audi's sales. Most people buying Audis at that end of the spectrum have a brand image in mind, as well as a justification to spend the money (salary package/leasing etc.)

I think it would work in Germany too, there are a lot of SQx and RSQx (x=3,5,7) around, in fact the performance models would make up a large percentage of the total SUVs on the road as Germany traditionally don't have that many SUVs.

I think the R-Line pack on the Tiguan has served as a good experiment for VW, and the fact that there was a large global demand for the R-Line pack would suggest to VW that there's enough demand for a sporty SUV in that part of the market.

Don't think the R is going to happen any time soon unfortunately. Why not give it an APR tune and, if you really want, the R turbo to bring it to the same output as a tuned R? With a standard stage 1 software tune it will be faster than a stock Golf R anyway.

I agree with ewok666, Why spend $60K to $70K in the future when you spend around $2K to $3K and have it now.
Ordered: 2017 build date Tiguan 162 TSI Highline with DAP in Tungsten Silver and rear luggage tray. ETA: late April / Early May. I did not have to wait. I took delivery on 11 March 2017.

I just read on car sales news and reviews that the Tiguan R is all but confirmed for 2019. Perfect timing as I will be turning over my R line by then. Fingers crossed
