I think the R-line Tig would easily be able to accommodate this spec wheel, but recommend checking your current set-up to make sure you have sufficient clearance. You could also run the "standard" 255 width rubber on these rims but if you wanted to go the "fatter" look, the 275's would do this.

^ Agreed, I can't imagine the 15.7mm poke would be an issue on these - it would be good if we knew what sort of inner clearance is there though. Information on this seems pretty scarce/non-existent.

Not a wheel mod as such, but this would look pretty effective with some decent rims on it.

It's a pity the rear glass doesn't line up with the wrap - I'm assuming the body line is slightly higher there?

Just ordered a 162 highline with all the options in white, get it in 4 weeks time.

I am thinking about either painting/Plasti Dip/Powder Coating the rims black.

Have not see any pics on the net of the 20's in black.

Can someone do a photoshop for me.

I'd possibly try a plasti-dip first.. but I'm probably biased, as I think the Suzukas are pretty average in standard finish, and will just get worse in a black finish.. which might explain why no one else has tried it?

Actually do it and prove me wrong, maybe not seeing the Suzuka will improve it.

I think some other OEM wheels would respond better - but I don't believe they're offered here? (eg. Miramar, whatever the twin five spoke was a page or two back in this thread etc.)

Don't powder coat - it's not a recommended process on alloy wheels (regardless of what powder coaters will do).

    Gen 2 Tiguan Wheels Thread

Hi Guys, I currently own the 162 TSI R-Line with the 20inch Rims. I often go camping + intend on going on a snow trip in August this year from Northern NSW to Jindabyne.

I couldn't find any definite information on this anywhere in this thread, what i'd like to know is whether i can buy a set of smaller OEM rims and run All Terrains. Will the smaller rims clear the brakes and therefore would this be possible?

Also i'd do my best to keep the rolling diameter the same, will there be any issues with the speedometer potentially?

    Cheers!

I assume with the 20inch R-Line Rims that snow chains would pose an issue otherwise?

Yes you can buy a smaller rim with a higher profile all terrain tyre - Bridgestone Dueler or similar. Standard wheel on the 132TSI is a 17x7 with 215/65 R17. In the Dueler you'd be looking at 225/65 R17 as they don't make the tyre in 215 width.

The brakes on the 162TSI and 140TDI are the same as on the 132TSI - 340mm front / 300mm rear. Only the 110TSI/TDI have smaller front brakes -312mm. You shouldn't have a problem fitting any of the stock wheels.

No problems with the speedo. Just keep close to the stock sizes and you'll be fine. If anything I'd err on the side of going slightly larger as the speedo typically over-reads by a bit and this will have the effect of correcting the speedo error.

Some people have looked at snow chains already with the 162TSI: No going to the snow in a 162TSI
