List of problems with my 2009 R36

    Hi guys,

Bought my R36 a year ago with 60,000 km on it, although the car is running smooth, I have noticed quite a few issues with the car.

    1. Reverse gear sometime fails to engage, it makes few click sound and becomes neutral. A mate of mine reckons the clutch is broken.

    2. When reversing, tapping brake sometimes make a loud low frequency sound like a rubber hitting metal, it's not the common high pitch brake noise. The brake is working perfectly fine, and is very responsive, stops even better than new cars. (I suspect the previous owner might have installed new brakes incorrectly)

    3. The AC unit powers up really slowly, sometimes it takes up to 5 minutes to start pumping out cold air. (Car is recently serviced at Kevin Dennis Volkswagen on Ballarat road)

4.Front passenger door sometimes can't be unlocked from outside.

Can anyone recommend me a mechanic that's not too far from Melbourne that can fix these problems for me at a reasonable price?

    Thanks.

I have an 09 r36 which has or had similar issues:

    1. Sounds like clutch packs but get it properly diagnosed. I had the same problem - first mechatronics and then clutch packs were replaced. The mechatronics made some improvement but the most notable improvement was from the clutch packs, so I would change that first.
    Fixing won't be cheap.
    2. What are the conditions of your discs - if the pads were changed recently but the discs weren't (they should have been), it can make some noises. But if it works I wouldn't worry too much.

    3. I have the same issue with the Ac - haven't had it diagnosed so would appreciate insight.

    Cheers

    1. I'd first try getting transmission recalibrate using Ross Tech VCDS by a local owner of one or a VAG specialist.
    Cheap if it works.

    2. Maybe get the car up on chassis hoist, examine the sound (assuming it comes from front wheels)

    3. Needs regas

    4. If the door lock doesn't lift with remote, you may need to replace that mechanism (Auto electrician). If the lock is fine but the door handle fails to operate, that mechanism needs to be adjusted or replaced. Both need door trim removed first.

    1. I have booked in with my mechanic to run a mechantronics basic setting(told me it needs to be done at night on highway, and it requires high speed driving up and down for 20 km), and if that doesn't fix the problem, the clutch packs needs to be replaced for over $3000.

    2. The discs were replaced last year about 15k ago, relatively new, but probably wasn't fitted properly.

3.Will let you know after I take it into the mechanic next week.

    Cheers mate

Friend of mine recommended a local VAG specialist, and I have told them about your suggestions. Will find out the problem next week, apparently this mechanic worked at Essendon VW for over 3 years.

As for AC, it's not about regas, the issue persisted even on the day after major service - right after they regased it.

I have fixed the lock myself. it wasn't properly connected inside, only used a plastic pry.

    Cheers
