On carpoint there's a few Golf Rs under $40k, cheapest at around $36k.
Good value I think, someone willing to sell will give you a good price.
Are you looking at interstate as well, will give you a broader choice.
Have you considered a DSG GTI, not much separates them in the real world.
    Happy hunting

Thanks for the help. I currently have a MK5 gti and even with the KU36's traction really lets it down so I'm quite keen on the awd factor.

Stock or tuned? My tuned GTI is running Pirelli Centurados and it grips shortly after a quick loss of grip if I hammer it from the lights. It's fine for the twisties too.

Good luck with the buy though. If you've modified your GTI then some parts may go straight onto the R.

I have an intake, dump and stage 2 bluefin tune. The only way to get good traction at a test and tune was to drop the pressure to 18psi and get some heat into them.

Really? That's a shame. I'm running Stage 2+ GIAC and I can find plenty of traction if I feather the throttle or decide not to launch it. In the wet it's just terrible though.

Yes I hear you with the wet

I have dsg so no feathering option. I tried many different combinations that night was slow and we got about 20 runs in. This one was the best I could come up with.

Dealers are pumping them to get rid of them before the MK7 gets here. You can pick up a brand new one for $49k. If you are lucky you might get a low km demo for around 45ish.

Only problem is I think the factory had an over supply or rising blue paint cause every dealer I've been to has got one and can't get hold of other colours.

Is this for a gti or an R? I was under the impression the new R's wont be here for another 18-24 months?
