DSG Problem, Car won't go into reverse

    Hi guys,

It seems that I'm having a rough patch with my CC. Today I was parked uphill, I noticed that the car was sluggish when I left the curb... It felt like it was on the 2nd gear not the first. Anyway, I drove for around 1 KM, then I went into a car park.

I placed the gear in Reverse, pressed on the throttle, and nothing... the car wouldn't move. I tried to put it back in D, then P then R with no luck. I had to turn the ignition off then on, then it went back to normal.

I scanned the car with VCDS when I reached home, and there was a DSG fault:

    1 Fault Found:

19143 - Unexpected / Implausible Mechanical Gear Disengagement

    P2711 - 004 - - Intermittent

    Freeze Frame:

    Fault Status: 00100100

    Fault Priority: 0

    Fault Frequency: 255

    Reset counter: 40

    Mileage: 99217 km

    Time Indication: 0

    Date: 2010.01.19

    Time: 21:04:25

The car is a 2010 but was bought in 2011, 99000 KM on the odometer. Factory warranty has expired.

I believe it should be still covered under the statutory warranty, no?

I'm wondering what is the best way to deal with this matter with the dealership? the car was serviced with VW except for the last service, I have done it with a VW specialist.

Any help or hints are must appreciate it.

    Cheers,

    Vexed

Vexed, XXX-1.8T had a similar problem not being able to engage reverse.
    Check this thread; http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/foru...vw-108023.html

When you so say Statutory Warranty, when did you purchase the car?
Generally a second hand car dealer should provide 3 or 2mths depending on which state it is sold.

I think he means the consumer warranty as described on the ACCC website

Yes that is exactly what I meant... The car is MY 10, but was purchased from VW in February 2011...

Thanks, I will check with XXX-1.8T and see what did he do about it.

I have booked the car for inspection with my local dealership next week... Will see how it goes...
I remember that I reported this problem to them during a scheduled services a year and a half ago, when the car was still under factory warranty, after my wife complained about it... They told me there is nothing wrong with it...

Pretty sure there is a software update that addresses that issue.

Interesting... I was told it has to do with the mechatronics and/or clutch...
I hope there is no physical damage in there...

It's extremely unlikely to be physical damage. The mechatronic is certainly the most common failure point, and one of its most common failure manifestations is false neutrals, although I've not seen that specific fault code before.

If it does end up being the mechatronic, don't immediately consent to paying for a full replacement. Second-hand refurbished units can be obtained that are much cheaper than new at dealer prices. But more significantly - if you mentioned the issue to your dealer whilst the car was still under warranty, then they should have made a note of it, and it could be argued that the gearbox fault is a pre-existing condition that first occurred whilst the car was under warranty. If that's accepted, any repairs should be covered under warranty.

You can get an exchange Mechatronics unit through VW, and comes with an actual 12 month warranty.

With almost 100,000kms on the clock, I'd say the Mechatronics has decided that the wear and tear is outside of its parameters on occasion.
