dsg service costs 2010 jetta 125 tdi

    hi all

Went to my local vw dealer to change the timing belt and water pump and they then said that the dsg needs to be serviced
the quoted me $700 they said the oil alone is 400. Seems expensive to me.
    Is that normal?

what do independent transmission specialists charge?

my regular mechanic didnt service it he said it wasnt due yet even though the car is 7 years old.
VW said its due every 4 years so its over due 3 years already

    thx

    4 years, or 60,000kms.

The oil from VW is around $50-$60/L and it needs just under 5L. There are cheaper alternatives.

Can't speak for all independants, but I charge $350 just to service the DSG alone.

Suggest you get a new mechanic...

You don't say what part of Melbourne you are but there are plenty of good specialist independent VW folk down there.

We are taking it to VW from now on
We replaced the timing belt and did DSG service at VW
Today another problem happened the car just suddenly died we called RACV who said there was a problem around the timing belt.
Towed it to VW and they said the egr cooler / valve and sensor is blocked due to lack off driving.
They also said the DPF filter needs to be regenerated often if you are not driving the car often but it can last 3 months or a few years depending on how its driven but they recommended every 3 months.

The car is a diesel 125 tdi. We do about 11500kms a year. And do alot of short trips. Average long trip is a 25-35min drive but that is just to work or back home. Weekend driving are all short trips to the shops ect..

Does this problem sound right for this car or are they lying to cover their ass as it could of been a timing belt problem?

Are RACV proper mechanics or do they just do a quick diagnoses and suggest a tow to a proper mechanic?

VW quoted 2900 to fix it

    thx

Try these guys if you are near to Doncaster.

TBH having a TDI with a DPF is probably the least suitable vehicle for short trips. You'd need to be doing deliberate longer journeys to keep the DPF in good order.

The DSG needs doing every 60k
