Argh... I go crazy trying to do these updates. I have extracted the files, formatted an SD into NTFS, copied the Mib1, Mib2 folders and the metainfo2 text document onto it. Put in in the car... nav->config -> software update.... it then spends a good 5 minutes thinking hard about it to tell me there's no data on my SD card. Help! I know the card works because this is the one that I used last time..... any clues as to what i'm missing?

Use your Mac. If it has an SD card slot, pop it in. Use Disk Utility to format it as ExFat in a single partition.
Place the zip file into a new folder on your hard drive.
Double click the zip file to unzip it.
Copy all the files in the folder, except the zip file, to the SD card.
Open Terminal (inside the Utilities folder).
If the name of the SD card is UNTITLED, type:

    dot_clean /Volumes/UNTITLED

If the name of the card is different, then replace UNTITLED with the name of the card. Make sure the name of the card has no spaces in it.

After typing the command, press the return key. The command will take a second to run.
Eject the card and pop it in the car, following the usual update process.

I had the same error on my Mac (using Safari and Chrome). However, no problem when I used Windows PC. Following the previous update experience and this one, I believe that the update process doesn't work well on Mac.

As always, your advice is spot on. I now find myself watching Netflix in my iPad in my car for the next 45 minutes as the update loads due to a lack of offstreet parking. There are less comfortable places to be though... it's made me wonder if I can somehow bring heated seats into my living room...

My problem with the mac is that the downloader just drops out and stops and wants to start again. I use FF but from memory Safari had the same issue. On a PC it opens a downloader software that can restart if it loses connection.

Downloading on mac is a pain in the proverbial - I used the link provided by Ceejay - it is much faster and I the file is the correct one.

How does it get the right file without tying it to the VIN, or is that link the version Dealers get that installs on any?
