Looking at buying a 2008 Pacific 2.0 FSI

I'm helping my sister look for a Golf. Saw one for under 8 grand in Melbourne that looks fairly good. 2008 auto with 127,000km on the clock. $7999

    Car is here: https://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Volkswagen-Golf-2008/SSE-AD-4187648

Is there particular things I should look for with this car ? Is it a good price ? And who does pre purchase inspections on the weekend that I can take it to ?

    Thanks

These engine and gearbox combos are very good, provided the services are up to date, the trans oil should be replaced every 60k you would want to see that this has been done twice for this car.
Timing belt pulleys water pump should have been done also.
If you can't see all the service history, either walk away or get the price down below $6000.

I saw one today. About 100k on the clock. No service records. Owner said the timing belt is good up to 150k so she hadn't done it.

    T-belt is 105,000km or 7 years.
That Audi looks nice, but are you shopping for your sister or yourself

    Oh dear.

She can keep her hand grenade engine then. In all fairness, these will crap water pumps before the timing belt will let go.

But in saying that, I'd avoid the autos in these.

    Coolant doesn't look very pink.

Could be a sign of frequent top-ups of water, suggesting a leak somewhere.

Agree, the auto is crap in the 2.0FSI, prone to failure. If you do some research you will find many incidents of rebuilds required on boxes with 80k or less. Note, the 1.6FSI has the same gearbox, and also Audi uses the same gearbox in the 2.0 & 1.6 FSI models of the A3.
