Ignition barrel replacement options - 06 Jetts

    Hey,
My GF has an 06 Jetta and a few times in the last week she has not been able to turn the ignition off as the key has remained stuck. It has proven difficult to turn the key counter-clockwise into the off position and to remove the key.
There is quite a bit of notchiness with the key in the barrel.

I'm assuming that 10 years of use has caused enough wear in the barrel for it to no longer align well in the barrel.

I'm looking for advice as to what will be the most cost effective resolution for this??

Is it possible to change the barrel and keys without having to replace the whole assembly?

    Thanks in advance

    Pallok

Have it removed and sent to an automotive locksmith for a rebuild.

Not as yet. Would you say that's the best option?

I believe that she had the assembly replaced a few years ago due to an issue, but the locksmith re-used the key barrel so the keys and immobiliser ring could be re-used.

The internals are worn, so it will need to be disassembled.

She shouldn't need to change keys or have issues with the immobilizer.
