    Good melbourne vw mechanic

Just wondering if anyone can suggest a good independent VW mechanic in melbourne?
unfortunately our car is just out of warranty and the "fault in the exhaust system" light has just popped up...

    cheers
(ps did a quick search but wasnt able to find much useful info re a good mechanic)

I had my exhaust sensor replaced under warranty as it was a known fault, why dont you try your VW dealer and see if it can be fixed ?

i think it was 26F6in a previous thread

    thanks for the suggestion daniel7y.
ian, thanks for the tip as well. i did do a quick search on the exhaust light, but it seemed to be mostly concerned with the TDIs. Ours is a 2.0FSI, do you know if it is affected by the same thing?

if it is a common problem which also affects the 2.0fsi's then i will prob go to the dealer and try to get it partially covered by vw aus. but if not i may go straight to the independent, because i if i go to the dealer first to get it diagnosed they will charge me a diagnostic fee if it is not fixed by them.

Yes, this could happen to patrol engines as well. I had the problem on my R32 when it was relatively new. It took the dealer 4 days to diagnostic the problem and it produced a 20 page diagnostic report when I picked up the car. Fortunately the car was under warranty and I got a loan car. It turned out it was a faulty oxygen sensor and once they fixed it, the warning light never lights up again for the past 2 years.

How long is the car out of warranty and have you serviced on time with your purchasing dealer?

    Are you also the original
    Owner?

If so then you have a really good chance of getting a good will fix from VW aus.

Once my wifes Series 5 1.6L was out of warranty we took the car to a couple of closeby VW specialists in Para Road Greensborough. DJ Mackay which my brother (Golf GT and Series 4) uses and Volksverke who we've settled on. Volksverke have fixed a few post warranty problems (low speed fan on radiator failing), brakes, etc. The brakes were a fraction of the dealer price and so far we've had no suprises.
Both shops are a 5 min walk to Greensborough railway station and also on bus routes.

    Good luck

Once my wifes Series V 1.6L manual was out of warranty we moved our servicing to a couple of specialists in Para Road, Greensborough. One minor at DJ Mackay (who my brother uses for his Golf GT and his daughters Series 4) and most of our servicing at Volksverke just a few doors down the road. They have fixed some problems like the radiator fan (the low speed fan failed which means the whole unit needs replacing) and the brakes. On brakes they were a fraction of the dealer price. We've been going there for 3 to 4 years with no suprises.

Both places are no more than a 5 minute walk to Greensborough railway station and there's also buses running past.

    Good luck!

Not sure where DJ Mackay are but Volkwerke are about 800 metres from Greensborough station so that would be a very brisk walk to make it in 5 mins.

I've used Volkwerke a number of times and find them very good and reasonably priced.
