    On behalf of a friend with fried electrics...

    i everyone,

    This (as the title suggests) is a request for a friend who has major electronic issues.

    Her 7 year old, Mk5 God TDI is, in a word, fried. The interior electronics have gone hay-wire, to the point of her being locked in the car, luckily with a window open enough for her to climb out of.

    My thought process is this:
    Due to VW’s inability to design a properly draining sunroof (which her car has and yes, even the latest polo panoramic sunroofs leak) it seems to me that as an outsider not being able to fully inspect the car, the description sh gave of “water in the front footwells” suspiciously leads me to believe that like the mk4 golfs, if the drainage points are not 100% clear of debris etc, they get blocked, filling up the drainage hoses and overflowing into the passenger compartment.

    The ECU is throwing up to 70 fault codes, but they all seemingly are only affecting the interior electronics, as the car on occasion, can be started and it runs ok. Also, without being directly in contact with the car, I cannot do a VCDS scan on it to try and narrow down the issue.

    Where is the comfort and convenience module (aka, interior electronics ecu) placed in the Mk5? Does someone have a service manual that could show me where it is? I have a suspicion that it is at the base of the A pillar on the passenger side, is this correct? If so, this would concur with my hypothesis that the sunroof drains have overflowed (due to poor maintenance, something freely admitted!) with the water draining into the passenger compartment, down the A pillar, coming into contact with the comfort module.

    Just after some clarification please and no offence intended, but informed decisions at this point (3 weeks of electronic mayhem, stuck in a garage) are far more appreciated than heresay and the typical “if she washed her car more often, this wouldn’t have happened so it’s her own fault” style of comment.

    CECM is under the Steering wheel

    Remove the bottom cover and it is up there somewhere.
    Search for CECM Upgrade or Upgrading to Bi-Xenons (VWVortex.com - Golf V GTI OEM Xenon Installation Completed..)

    I think its location varies based on the year model. Pay for a one day subscription to Erwin (https://erwin.volkswagen.de/) and you will get all the docs you need.
