How to improve the exhaust note on an RS?

    Hey all,

Has anyone had any success in producing a better exhaust note on the RS?
Something like the Golf GTI would be nice...you know, the farts and pops...

What would be involved in replicating that setup?

    Cheers!

Replacing the centre resonator with either a straight pipe or smaller stainless steel wrap core resonator will liberate extra noise.

Keep in mind that our car has minimum amount of sound deadening and the logic on the DSG box is gear for economy which makes it prone to lugging the engine if left at its own device which translate to more droning hence the need of such a large resonator out of the box.

I have experimented with straight pipe, glass pack and stainless wrap resonator.
-Straight pipe droned ('rattle in the can' drone) quite horribly on my car (some car reported no droning). Sounds great at WOT though, plenty of DSG pop.
-Glass pack has the best sound, smooth and deep with good DSG pop tone, 100% no drone but only last six months.
-Stainless wrap resonator has a higher pitch compare to glass pack, has some drone brand new when the engine is being lugged.
Pretty much drone free after six months of usage. Tone seems to get deeper overtime, mine is 2 years old and is happy with the sound. It does produce some DSG pop and burble at overrun as well.

Unless you are buying a proper system, changing the rear exhaust box will produce a loud boomy drone, suggest avoid doing this.

Also, to save you potential headache, put a flange or plate when changing the centre resonator, makes swapping so much easier. Although some newer car has sleeve build in already, no cutting is required if this is the case.
