    MK3 Exhaust - RS

Who here has done any work on their exhaust?

I plan on getting the CTS downpipe & 100 cel cat but would like a bit more noise out it, and would like to be able to hear the dsg farts.

Im totally aware that the change of rear mufflers / centre resonator will not increase the power without the downpipe being done first, but who has made changes in the exhaust and what sort of results / sound did you get?

I dont want a boy racer loud exhaust as it's a work car & I spend a lot of time in it, but a note close to that of a stock Golf R would be nice.

Can anyone confirm if the stock centre resonator is a straight through unit or does it have a baffled chamber in the centre?

Cut out centre muffler and replace with straight pipe. That'll give you DSG farts without too much noise.
    Report back when done.

Looked under a Superb 206 yesterday and noticed it had a similar exhaust set up but was larger diameter. Anyone heard the exhaust of a 206 ?

The 206 has bi-modal exhaust, so is more raspy and farts louder than the 162's. Probably is a little larger, as it would have to flow more air. Bigger turbo, too!

Never replace the resonator with a straight pipe, there is a good reason the resonator is 60cm long and shaped like a prism, to eliminate droning on the pipe. I've done that and there's a drone under load around about 2.5k rpm. It's not a loud drone but enough to be noticed. The stock resonator is straight through, no baffled.

I've replaced my center resonator with an 18inch Stainless pack. There is still a low volume resonance if you lug the engine. I'm very happy with the note inside the cabin, it's just a tad louder than stock but most importantly doesn't drone out the engine noise, still retain that urgency sensation under throttle. And yes, there is DSG fart.

I've made some video on youtube:

    https://youtu.be/UUNydgT-6gM - Resonator delete

https://youtu.be/NOuORhYooYk - Glass Pack 18 inch resonator (sounded the best, deep and low, but burnt out the packing after six months or so)

    https://youtu.be/mOpFg3gtJYw - Stainless pack 18 inch resonator

    Hope that helps.

Awesome, pretty much what I'm after will get it booked in shortly and have the centre res cut out and a stainless packed 18" resonator fitted - was going to use Rod Bliss or another place called fabulous fab that was recommended in Archerfield

I'm on the south side, but in the city most weekdays.

Before you cut the OEM resonator, it's worth looking down and see how your pipe is set up. Newer RS supposed to have a slip joint just after the reso, no cutting is required, just unbolt slip joint on both ends. If you have to cut, leave enough piping attach to the stock resonator. It has a weird dual pipe setup inside, if you cut too close, you are risking damaging the internal pipe which will end up rattling at certain rpm.

My stock piping is one solid unit, so we put a plate towards the end for interchangeable purpose.

This is how it sits right now.

I like the stainless pack sound . Do you have or can you put up the sound from inside at say 2-2500 rpm? And is there any drone?

I can see a slip joint at the front, but nothing at the rear
Mine is an early 2015 / 2016 spec build just before they put the lane assist in
