Beetle just needed to ensure it was hit by the pilot vehicle as it merged into the right lane, forcing the pilot to stop and file a report with police.
Beetle had no requirement to give way at that point. Right lane has right of way.

not when your an escort for a wide load. He is there as an extension of the truck to warn traffic to keep clear. something the beetle failed to do! Sure maybe he didnt stop but we didnt see the end of the video, maybe someone else was already stopping behind them and also he has to stop the truck as it cannot continue without him! Dont be so quick to judge from such a short clip.

One can only judge based on the evidence to hand.
Sure the beetle was trying some stupid **** there but the truck and pilot could have taken action to avoid the crash, insurance may call their actions as contributed negligence.

So a slow moving truck with large orange signs and flashing lights warning of an oversized load with a following car with the same signs and flashing lights could be seen as negligent when some idiot tries a desperate overtaking maneuver on a narrowing road where the truck has already clearly taken the right of way? Dont think so!

that was my first assumption! Texting at 100kmh and suddenly came across a slow moving truck blocking the lane!
