Crawled under the dash and stayed there for most of the day.
Pulled the cluster, cleaned and repaired all the gauges.
Upgraded to LED illumination too just to brighten things up a bit and take a bit of load out of the cluster circuitry.
We're going to get a dash re skinned once it's back on the road, ignore the cracks for he moment.
Also replaced the ignition switch, I'd patched it up as a stop gap. It was not working when we got the car, the ignition was wired to work off the parkers.
Found the indicator switch was coming apart. One of the cast posts that gets peened over to keep the mechanism together had snapped off due to years of yanking on the high beam.
I drilled and tapped it for a M3 Screw. Fiddly stuff but achievable.
Then I spent the next two hours getting the horn to work. What a right PITA!
Restored the dash fan wiring too, it had been 'modified' because of a once fitted a/c system.
Cable that operates the heater valve looks to be stuffed too, hopefully a golf one is the same length.
Nearly there....
