MK4 GTI 03 blow off valve question

Does anyone know if it's legal/possible to put a very small BOV on the GIT? I know it sounds ****y, but I kinda always wanted a small woosh. I hear cars with them everyday and I know they are illegal to some extent, but not sure how they keep it legal.

I think the short answer is that the atmospheric DVs are illegal. A number of people have had running issues with full atmo valves and I would not recommend anyone run one for that reason.

You spend $xxx on one and then have to spend more to fix the problem.

I have a Green Cotton Twister on my S3 and you can hear the Forge DV do it's thing on that. In fact it is pretty loud inside the car, if you come off the throttle quickly.

It's a good bet that the std DV died long ago, so I'd say get a replacement one anyway. They don't usually cause a fault to register.

    You can test them easily.

as gav said 1.8ts (or any maf car) will not run well on an atmospheric bov. if u want the woosh just get a pod filter or cai it will make quite a loud sound especially with the stock metal turbo inlet pipe. i have a vid up on youtube demostrating how mine sounds but i cant figure out how to link videos

    edit: hope that works

Forge does a Diverter Valve that both diverts boost air to 30% atmosphere and 70% intake. I had only on my Polo GTI with no issues, but I now have a Forge 007 DV that is 100% intake, which is louder that the Splitter. The stock DV is pretty weak, and worth replacing with a decent aftermarket one.

The '99 GTI I have just purchased has a full atmo BOV, does this mean the car would run better with the std plumbed diverter reinstalled?
I would like to change it regardless, as I'm not really into the noise it makes.
They missed this on my RWC too...

If it seems to run ok now, there's probably no benefit from fitting a recirculating one. I'd offload the atmo on anyway though.

Ebay ones for $60 work ok IMO. I have a few on the shelf, if you want one quick.

a short ram air filter kit will make the DV psssh sound more noticeable, i took mine off and went back to the standard air box cause it was too loud. Though a open air filter is illegal as well.

You guys could swap. Woah. Omg.

On my 1.8T I had a Go Fast Bits Hybrid BOV which you could change to full reciric, full vent to atmo or 50/50. It was a pretty sharp "psshhh" though but you could adjust it down.

My GTI has a BOV from previous owner, will be replacing it with a 225hp Audi TT diverter valve.
Last car was noisy, flutter here and pshhhh there lol.
Novelty wore of quickly as did the unwanted attention.
