Car turns off when stalling and won't turn back on?

    Hi all,

I've recently purchased at GTI MK4 2001 and now having a little trouble with it.

It's a very weird issue: If the car stalls, I go to switch the car back on but it doesn't turn over (sometimes). Other times it just hasn't turned over and I've had to push start the car.

Most likely happens when it's a cold start, short distance or stall. It's very random

I thought it may be a battery issue, however, the light on the battery is green, the lights and radio can still fully function if the car is off, the lights don't dim etc.I've measured the alternator to the battery and get a constant 13.5v - 14v reading so I don't think the alternator is the issue here?

Today I went for a small drive, tried to turn the car on 30 minutes later and didn't turn on. Waited an hour and it then turned on?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

Tough one, could be a mountain of things. I'd get it scanned and go from there.

    Most likely the crankshaft sensor.
