    T4 2002 Caravelle

Hello, guys, I do not much about VW T4 and would like to ask some basic information.
The vehicles that I am considering (budget) are T4 2.5 petrol models with less than 200000 km.
Is the automatic gearbox reliable and if play up expensive to service?
The Caravelle has the same internal dimensions than the Transporter SWB? (planning on converting it to camper)
Are in Melbourne any good independent VW mechanics to do a pre purchase inspection?
The 2.5, has the timing belt and if yes, how much cost the service?
About $9000 to $10000 is a fair price to pay for a clean unit?
I considering the Caravelle because are less trashed than commercial vans.
    Your inputs are appreciated.
    Cheers

I would personally try and avoid the auto. They are not known for their reliability, I'm afraid.

There is another option that has come up, a 2010 LWB T5 Tdi 2 manual 270000 km for $10000
I think that the 2010 model has a timing chain and not belt.
It is in a very good condition and with log books by VW

Those are belt-driven, but they're an ok thing.

    Thank you for your reply.
If the belt has not been changed in the log books I will get the kit.
In this engine, the belt drives the water pump, if that it is the case, I would change the pump as well.
How much can cost the full service, parts, and labor, $15000?
    Any recommendations are appreciated.
