    New Multivan

Hi guys, new to the whole forum thing and am overwhelmed with all the information here!

I bought this beast from brisbane and just drove it down to melbourne the other day, looking to put some drawers in and lift it up with some a/t tyres, some really good info from Markee and Sunny on previous posts.

The bloke i got the car off looks like he really took care of it, just on 160,000 and everything seems fine, apart from my bluetooth phone not working properly. I am tossing up repair or replace head unit at the moment.

The only other drama I've had is with the service history, the books sometimes been filled out. I contacted my local V/W dealer and asked for a price for complete fluid/filter change and they quoted me around $1000 which was lower than I thought.

Another call to volkscare in boronia quoted me $600 so just wanted to know if anyone has a good mechanic (euro/vw specialist) they would recommmend around the south east of Melbourne.

Anyway thanks for all the info I have read already, and nice to meet you all.

    Cheers,
    Karra

Thats a nice looking ride you scored , got lots of goodies already are you planning on going off road ? Is the head unit a factory or aftermarket , rather than repairing might be better to pick up a good second hand one from a wreck etc what year is it .

    Thanks Sunny,

Its a 2010 4 motion, I want to use it for camping/work so no major 4wding, just trails.

It has a factory premium phone headunit, so does remote sim access which seems to work fine just doesnt get any phone reception. I would be happier with a standard headunit as the premium one cannot do bluetooth music, but I want all the steering wheel controls to work! I was wondering about 1 out of a newer wrecked VW with android auto, that would be pretty nice.

I have been reading about specific oils to use so hence why I am looking for a VW specialist for servicing.

So the main things I would like to do is raise the suspension, dual battery, drawers, lightbar, awning and some good tyres.

I have some 20inch rims as well that came with the car, probably looking at selling those though as its not the look I am going for.

So I take it its the T5.1 the update , main reason I ask is the dashboard openings are different between T5 and T5.1 . The 20 inch thing has been covered in some earlier threads , not my cup of tea too many problems with ride comfort and probable issues with suspension components as well . Ours is lowered on a Bilstein kit and we take it to some places where the going can get rough but you learn to drive to suit conditions to avoid problems.I suppose if you raise it , it will be a safegaurd against bottoming out on rutted roads .

I sort of like the rear wing, nice and subtle. Not so much the rear bar, maybe it's the lack of side skirts to finish it off that's throwing me.

As for the radio, I'm guessing after market since these didn't come with standard bluetooth back in 2010 (although it was an option).

If I was replacing a head unit today it would be a toss up between one of the Android based units so I could run Torque Pro on it... or the RCD330+ for CarPlay (which is very attractive since I use an iPhone).

The look of the van has changed a bit since this photo, I have removed the rear bar as I agree with you Hawk, and I had to remove all the window tint for a roadworthy I needed an inspection from Vic Roads because it was interstate so inspection fee and tint removal just so the girl could come out, spend 1 minute looking for my engine number then say "i cant find it, ill just take it off the roadworthy," she didnt look at the car at all! I wasnt very happy about that...

Apparently it has been lowered 40mm as well so not sure if I will raise it to the max allowed or just back to standard height, I havent really looked into it yet. I know going to max height can cause issues with needing spaces and not sure if I want the extra headaches!

I will look up torque pro, I dont remember reading about it in previous posts, but sounds interesting

Nice van, like the spoilers etc..

I have a VanEssa kitchen in my van, easy to take in and out. It comes with a Waeco fridge/freezer, sink, stove and stacks of storage.
