I agree with Scouser , the police for sure would not know what they were looking at any way . And unless you were doing burnouts which they would then check the engine for EXTREME mods then no worries . I got pulled over a couple of months ago on the way to get new tyres on our van which were as bald as a badger on the inner sides , the policemen asked me if I knew why I was being pulled over . Well I never mentioned the tyres that's for sure but he pulled me over because our DayLight Running lights were a pale blue colour . He walked around the van looking at all the other lights which were standard and eventually told me to just change them no fine no loss of points . I was stoked because he missed the bald tyres completely !!

The cost for mine on a 2.5 single turbo was $1700 for the part alone?

Just found out that the egr valve might replaceable instead the whole cooler and valve. About 1/3 the cost. Have booked it in next week. Hopefully all will be good.

An update if interested. The EGR valve was available, without the the cooler. So instead of a VW dealer wanting to charge around $3500 to $4000, the cost was $1200 through a European car specialist. The EGR valve came from another VW dealer, who had them on the shelf.

A second bugger though, just after the EGR repair the engine thermostat went. It's right next to the EGR and would have taken 15mins 2 weeks ago, instead another $700. I hope that's the end of it!!

PS: obviously I am no mechanic.

I had an EGR delete fitted including the part for $400 and it will never need replacing.

Wish I could do that to my early T5 but it has a petrol engine and there are no delete options or blanking plates for that motor .
