Putting Mk4 GTI seats in the Caddy.

Some of you saw it on facebook, and some of you may have noticed me hunting for a couple of knobs (still after them, by the way!!)... Well here's why.

I've got hold of some 2002 Golf GTI seats off a mate at the right price.. With the idea of fitting them in the Caddy.

The main thing i'm trying to do is not modify any of the parts on the Caddy, not modify or scab parts off the original seats, not modify or modify as little as possible the new seats AND use the original runners.. Thus making this conversion legal (uses the original mounting positions), as far as i know. Plus everything will be bolt in and reversible..

If this works out the way i intend, i'll retain full function for the height adjustment, too.

This afternoon I pulled the passenger seat out, took some measurements and worked out how i'll go about it. The whole setup should be reasonably simple to accomplish- within reason.

Here's a few pics. I'm going to fire up Autodesk Inventor and start modelling to see if what i have in my head will actually work..

    Mud map..

By the way, i've got the complete rear seat, too, if anyone is interested..

So far, i've modelled up the runners and the mounting points. All that is left is filling in the gaps.. Kinda..

Cant wait to see detailed instructions Chris, pity its not a straight forward job. The seats are the only real bugbear that I have with mine. Fine handling van but having to brace whilst going around corners sux!
I am thinking of putting my Sparco's into mine. I think the cubby under the seats is an excellent thing, I hide stuff under there.
Cheers, and keep us posted on your mod,
    Andrew

Cheers guys. I'll do my best to make it a detailed report.

The seats are offset inward a little, however. So i will have to look at maybe modifying the new seats slightly to enable me to get them across far enough, but we'll see..

Mal, it's Autodesk Inventor Professional 2008. Nice program.

More done. Now that i've gotten this far it's time to double check everything and measure up what i've come up with. It should work, but that doesn't mean it will work! haha.

Can't wait to see the results!

Was originally thinking about wacking some Recaros in mine - But then I sold the Recaros Wouldn't have been as "legit" as this set up, but damn it would've been nice to not be throw all about the cabin when cornering.

Well, i just found out that you can fit Mk5 seats with no mods except drilling a couple of holes.. So i'll be seeing what it costs to get them before i jerk around with this any further..
