Mk1 Cabriolet - Roof Pump Reservoir

    Hey guys,

So the reservoir for the roof pump is leaking and I'm assuming it has been over tightened around the 4 bolts that hold it to the pump so there is hairline cracks all around the bolt holes, in turn it won't hold fluid more than a week or two. Have tried sealing it as best as I can which seems to stop the leaks from most of the cracks above the base plate but it continues to leak from around the bolt holes themselves which I don't want to fill with glue or sealer.

    Just wondering if...

    A) Someone has a second hand reservoir they would be willing to sell

    or

    B) Where the hell can I get one?

This is about as close as I can find - VW Golf Mk3 Convertible Roof Motor Pump Replacement Oil Reservoir 1991-98 - which is for a Mk3 and not Mk1, although it looks VERY similar and I'm assuming could be universal. There's no parts listing for it as it's second hand (80 pounds!?). I've tried Google, VW specialist stores online, forums and eBay from multiple countries (AU/UK/DE etc) with not much luck. Any help is appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Beau

assuming you could wire it and plumb it, I dont see why you couldnt use a mk3 pump, like this
    VW GOLF MK3 / MK3.5 CABRIOLET 2000 HYDRAULIC ROOF PUMP 1E0871791A

They do seem to be the same pump. I cant confirm that the fittings are the same but it would really surprise me if they were not.

I ended up just using the power steering fluid in our mk1 because it had a very, very slow leak somewhere that I never found. I think in 3 years I put a 700ml bottles worth in it.

If it was me, I'd be going for the mk3 pump setup even if its not a straight swap, just because then you're only going to have to look for replacement parts that are 20 years old
