Drewnsue25, this thread is to collate data, the other oil consumption thread would be better for your question (which has been answered many a time before).

To my knowledge, usage is acceptable and within normal limits. My oil warning light has never come on and the oil levels are regularly checked and topped up (for free) by the dealer as necessary.

    Model: 6R GTI 3dr
Date bought: Purchased December 2010 delivered September 2011
    Odometer:13,500
Total visits to the dealer regarding oil usage: 7
Time lost going to the dealer: At least 12 hours
Total oil used/added by owner: 2.5L by me unsure of amount by dealer during numerous top ups
Days without the car: most times declined loan car when offered. The car would have been at the dealership for 2 months since September
Date when diagnosed with high oil consumption: Burning too much oil since delivery. Official diagnosis December 2011
    Dealership name/state: Essendon VW Victoria
Repairs done: Piston rings replaced. Since this time vehicle has been towed when Engine management light illuminated and was emitting clouds of smoke and misfiring. Tested by Volkswagen Group Technician and deemed to be within tolerance although nobody will tell me what this tolerance is. Car is still blowing way too much smoke and engine not performing correctly.
This is on top of the gearbox sounding like a bag full of spanners even after being replaced along with various other issues that can't seem to be rectified.
The case is with Consumer affairs and the financial ombudsman as Volkswagens’ responses to my issues have been completely unsatisfactory. I encourage all others to follow this path.
