My 2006 Polo GTI has nearly 180,000k's on it and has been stage 1 tune since 40,000k's and stage 2 since 100,000k's and I wouldn't dream of selling it. It has been ultra reliable.
2001 Bora 4 Motion Sport now used by number two son
2011 Skoda Octavia Scout now with Underground Performance tune
2010 Jetta 125 tdi dsg for the misses - Impressed
2006 Polo GTI - Enhanced by some of Gav's magic - Absolutely loving it

I went through the same thing. I drove the 66TSI, 81TSI and the 141kw GTI. There is a huge difference between them all, and i'd consider the 66TSI unacceptable for highway driving, it is really only acceptable for city/town and also loading it up with any more people than just a driver makes it useless at hills. The 81TSI on the other hand is fairly respectable, and much much better than the 66. I ended up buying the GTI because of the racecar flat bottom steering wheel, but i would be happy with the 81TSI as a cruisy fuel efficient car.

You can also get an APR tune for the 1.2 which adds a fairly significant boost in power given the displacement. I'm fairly certain the difference between the 66 and 81 is just a tune from the factory but no not quote me on it, so if a tune were planned 66kw might be the go.

I think you would not be disappointed with the 81kW 1.2 TSI.

So I can get a brand new sp25 driveaway but will need to sell my car asap. Are there any good mechanics in adelaide that can sort out my engine light error code?

So took my car to the mechanics and they done this to the car
Yes, i wish to change the thermostat which mechanically regulates the coolant temperature by controlling the flow of coolant through the system. The ECU is reorting a temperature flucuation of up to 35 degrees throughout its driving range. This indicates a sticky thermostat.

Drove it home and engine light came back on 1.2 lt engine downgrade

Did you tell them what to do or was it their diagnose?
