Help :-( temp sensor and sai went at the same time?

    Hello guys
I had 2008 polo gti for atleast six months now ever since i got it i could here my sai pump whining noise in the morning for a cold starts for 30 secs. Few days ago i started her up in the morning i couldnt hear it like i used to and plus on that day i ran the car for couple of hours..turn her off at the shop came back after 5mins start her up and the temp gauge went right down even though thr car is hot and it will take a few mins for temp gauge to reach half again. Got temp sensor replaced and now i still couldnt here my sai pump for cold start. Any ideas what could caused the two things playing up at the same time? Please help

Im not aware of them being on the same circuit or anything and they are unrelated in function. Could have been purely coincidental. Are you getting the check engine light coming up on the dash which is what should happen soon after the SAI stops working? If you can get a fault code scan done on it to get some more clues.

After ive replaced my temp sensor the gauge seem to be working fine. ive got it replaced at a volks specialist but he couldnt scan it for me as his vag com was diagnosing other car and he was really busy.
so i took it to other mechanic...he had his scanning tool but it wasnt a vag com it was somthing else...it showed "coolant temperature fault" and "heating". He deleted the faults and the next morning i could hear my sai whine like a blow dryer as always.

This morning i could not hear it at the initial cold start only 2 mins later i could hear kicked in for like 5 seconds.
    sigh

I've been having similar issues for a few years. Every month or two I get the CEL and it throws an error with the coolant temp sensor. I also have the temp gauge issue constantly, even when the CEL isn't on. First few times I had the sensor replaced. Have also had radiator replaced but it still happens. Now I just have my own VAGCOM and clear the code myself. Would be interested if there are any ideas on this.
