Replacing plastic tab that holds up parcel shelf string on Mk6

    Hi,
I'm looking for the plastic tab that holds up the string for the parcel shelf. I've broken one off. I have gotten a few VW dealers tell me that you need to replace the entire plastic assembly around the top part of the inside of the rear window. Surely this can't be true. It costs around $150. Any help would be appreciated.

Yep, all true. Mk5 golf you can buy the lugs separately and fit them, however with mk6 they changed the design and now the whole trim gets replaced.

If you have the broken-off part, there's no reason it can't be glued back in.

There are some really good adhesives around these days.

Even if you don't have it, look at making a replacement part, it wouldn't be very difficult.

Covered by warranty 1st time only, VW caught on awhile back about people 'overloading' the top shelf causing the lugs to snap off.

    Hi,
I have posted a suggestion for a fix in the MK7 forum which applies to the MK6 as well: had the same issue with a 2006 Polo and current 118TSI... I used a plastic pin used to secure window fly-screens (found in Bunnings for a few cents). Refer thread for details & photo.

Does anyone have a good fix for a broken parcel shelf string? VW wants $30 for a replacement.

Thank you! That's exactly what I need, and at just over a tenth of the price.

Might be worth buying a few as spares at that price.
