MK6 2.0 TDI DSG - timing belt / cam belt kit service interval and parts

My Golf has only done about 45K, and my owner's manual says that the timing belt is due at 120K or 8 yrs (assumed at 15K per annum), so I need to get this done pronto. To some surprise I've read here from 2015 Timing belt interval on 2012 mk6 tdi? of the new interval:
"for all vw passenger cars and has been like this for about 5 years now. forget what the service book says as they are all different and for europe... VW AUS state the 105k / 7 years petrol and diesel ".

A bit late in the day to contact a VW specialist, so I thought I'd ask here...

    1. Can anyone confirm if a MK6 TDI 103kW has an updated schedule for the timing belt change from 120k / 8yrs to 105k / 7 years?

    2. The timing belt change prices vary massively. I suspect it's because of the differences in what was actually changed, such as belt, idlers, tensioner(s), water pump. I've seen kits that include from just two parts to a whole swag, see here: ECS News - Timing Belt Service Kits | VW MK6 Golf TDI | Beetle TDI Given my car has only done about 45K, should I do the whole shooting match, or should I be more selective: belt and water pump then do everything in an "ultimate" kit the next time? Or is is better, for the sake of a few hundred dollars extra in parts - "just do everything" at each belt change regardless of KMs.

With tensioners and idlers, I would think that with just 45K on them, they should last at least until the next belt is due. Water pump? Not so sure. With my ol' Subaru Forester, I left the water pump till the second timing belt at 185K Kms and 14yrs and there were only slight signs of a weeping leak.

    3. What are the VW part numbers from the kits that others have had installed. If I get a few quotes, then at least I can better compare what is planned to be changed, or specify exactly what I want done.

The service schedue is retroactive, so it's 105K/7yrs for everything, regardless of age.

You're always better off doing everything in one go. I'd look closely at the poly-V belt as well, as they tend to deteriorate prematurely on the TDI CR motors.

You're better off using a parts supplier who can look up what you need off your VIN, as there's small variations in pulleys and belt lengths.

Water pump is prone to leak on the TDI CRs, not to mention that the impellor is plastic. Stick with the plastic impellor'd ones, as the metal ones will chew through the water jacket if the bearings fail.

Total price for the 105K service (remembering it'll be due for the engine oil and filter too), from an independant will be anywhere between $1,000 and $1,500. Depends on the labour rate mainly. Anything under $1K, you'd have to question the quality of the parts. Use nothing less than OEM European stuff.

Do you remember roughly how old the car was at the time?

I've read some other posts slagging off about the plastic impellored pumps, because they can break up or dissolve away...??

Your costings of the 105K, is that basically for the timing belt and oil/filter change?

They only break when you don't treat them as a consumable. They need to be replaced as often as the timing belt.

    As for costings, yes.

There is no problem with the plastic impeller water pumps in the current engines. The advantage is that when the bearing fails no damage is done to other engine components by rotating plastic impeller.
