Defect brake servo - Fault: ESP/ABS??? ...but 01276 Hydraulic pump error instead

    Hi guys,
    I'm driving a Golf MKVI 2010 118TSI DSG 7speed automatic. 122,00km.

A couple of weeks ago, the display showed the following error message:
"Defect brake servo" followed by "Fault: ESP/ABS".
The weird thing, it comes and goes. Sometimes when I start the engine, sometimes after a while during the drive.
Usually every couple of days. At first I thought it would only appear on very hot days... also appearing on mild days now as well though.

When connecting it to the computer, I get a contradictory error code:

    1 error found

    01276 - Hydraulic pump ABS (V64)
    012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit - sporadic/intermittent

Did anybody experience anything similar by any chance? It seems weird that the car display says brake servo, whereas the error code refers to the ABS hydraulic pump...

    01276 - Ross-Tech Wiki recommends to
    ## Check Fuse(s) I don't know which ones - but as it appears randomly, I would assume it cannot be a fuse?!?
    ## Check Ground Spots Done - no change
    ## Check Wiring and/or Connector(s) from/to ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64) not checked yet
    ## Check/Replace ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64) See below

I'm a bit reluctant to replace the pump as it will cost me $3-4k if I do it with VW (part alone is $2.2k list price + GST as far as I remember). I'm afraid they'd replace it and just do a software update to actually solve the problem in the end...

In case anybody here has any hints, I'd be really appreciative.

    Thanks in advance.

    Moko
