    Purple metal polish. Very easy to use and works a treat.
    Above photo shows it applied to one side.

    Thought I should update ... bought said polish and it works brilliantly. Don't know if my exhaust is particularly smoky but the tips get smoky / sooty after a few weeks or around 100kms. The tip edges are hardest to get clean.

    I just use the finest steel wool from bunnings done in seconds , always used it in resto days with any chrome .
    GTI 11.5, carbon , roof , manual , rvc , apr stage1 , teeth ,mdi ,18" detroits , tint .

    Do you apply any kind of protection after cleaning that will keep the soot off longer?

    Well the tips are annoyingly sooty after just a week of normal driving around the suburbs and along highways; mostly in a high gear. Has anyone considered painting their tips a matt black colour alternatively, should I get VW to check it out?
