New Passat features the latest in technology and innovation
Distinctive styling and dynamic proportions herald a new era of Volkswagen engineering and design

Gold Coast, October 2015. Volkswagen Australia has unveiled the all-new Passat, introducing the eighth generation of this best-selling car. The new Passat sets new standards in terms of its design, technologies, engines and possibilities. The launch of the eighth generation Passat marks the debut of the latest version of a global best seller, with nearly 22 million units being built around the world. The Passat is the oldest active product brand from Volkswagen and is the Group’s most successful model.

Positioning and design
Exterior. The exterior of the eighth generation Passat has been built to create a design that conveys timeless style with contemporary finishes. The new Passat was created based on the modular transverse matrix (MQB). Its proportions were made to be significantly more dynamic (including lower body, longer wheelbase and larger wheels) and its overall package has been improved. While preserving all of its functional qualities, the new Passat has gained noticeably in presence and is distinguished by a number of external visual cues that enhance the vehicles sophisticated appearance. With the new Passat, Volkswagen has created a sedan and wagon that both cross over into a higher vehicle class.

Interior. The cars stylish exterior design continues inside the new Passat, as the interior has been developed with the aesthetics and quality to match the sophisticated overall concept. Based on several new design solutions such as a concise continuous horizontal band of air vents and advanced technologies such as a Driving Profile Selector, App-Connect and an extremely low-profile ambient lighting strip – the interior has a more modern and exclusive appearance than ever.

Assistance and drive systems
More convenience and safety. New assistance, infotainment and convenience systems make the Passat’s driving experience more exciting than ever before. Along with being more connected, the new systems also play an active role in the driving process, making handling of the vehicle even safer. In the new model, the vehicle features the latest in Volkswagen’s innovative technologies, including Volkswagens App-Connect system, featuring Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™ and Mirror Link®. The new Passat also showcases Front Assist with City Emergency Braking (City EB).

TSI and TDI engines. Also new to the Passat range are the vehicles powerful turbocharged direct injection engines. The new, more powerful 1.8 litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine has an impressive power output of 132kW and 250Nm of torque, while the new 2.0 litre turbocharged TDI engine produces a powerful 140kW and 400Nm of torque. All versions of the new Passat come equipped with a start/stop system, a regenerative braking mode and a direct shift gearbox (DSG).

Equipment versions
Three equipment lines. Like the previous model, Volkswagen will be launching the new Passat in three equipment lines: 132TSI, 132TSI Comfortline and 140TDI Highline. As the standard entry model, the Passat 132TSI offers an impressive level of standard features including 17-inch ‘Istanbul’ alloy wheels with 215/55 R17 tyres and an LED taillight assembly, adding style and character to the new vehicles exterior.

Interior features include an ergoComfort driver’s seat, height adjustment for the front seats and 3-zone climate control. Functional features include a start/stop (generation 2) system, a Multi-Collision Braking System, the ‘Discover Media’ satellite navigation system with 6.5-inch touchscreen multifunction display, separate day time running lights and Auto Hold. The Passat 132TSI Comfortline, with an even more exclusive specification, additionally comes as standard with details such as Front Assist with City Emergency Braking (City EB), Lane Assist, Side Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control. Interior features include Vienna leather appointed upholstery, 17-inch ‘London’ alloy wheels with 215/55 R17 tyres and an 8-inch colour touchscreen ‘Discover Pro’ satellite navigation system.

In the new vehicle’s premium grade, the Passat 140TDI Highline, not only are classic interior features such as St Tropez and black Nappa leather upholstery showcased, this version of the Passat features enhanced exterior chrome styling cues, darkened rear premium LED taillights and 18-inch ‘Dartford’ alloy wheels with 235/45 R18 tyres.

Optional Packages
With an already impressive list of standard features and equipment, the new Passat offers customers an array of practical and convenient inclusions. However, should customers want to enhance their Passat even further, three optional packages are available with a host of luxury and assistance systems.

Driver Assistance Package
The optional Driver Assistance Package (only available in 132TSI) increases the cars safety levels, above the already standard levels of the new Passat. Included in the package is Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with stop and go (DSG), Front Assist with City Emergency Braking (City EB), Lane Assist, Side Assist and Rear Traffic Alert as well as the Driver Profile Selection.

Luxury Package
The optional Luxury Package (only available in 132TSI Comfortline and 140TDI Highline) enhances the Passat’s exterior and interior appearance with LED headlights and LED daytime driving lights, a panoramic electric glass sunroof, stylish ambient interior lighting and electric foldable mirrors. The luxury package also includes a Driving Profile Selection (standard in 140TDI Highline) and Park Assist 3.

R-Line Package
The optional R-Line Package (only available in 132TSI Comfortline and 140TDI Highline) offers customers a wide range of additional exclusive features including: front sports seats, Nappa leather appointed upholstery with carbon style side bolsters, “R- Line” exterior and interior styling, leather wrapped multifunction steering wheel with gearshift paddles and “R-Line” insignia, progressive steering, lowered sports suspension (15mm), 19-inch ‘Verona’ alloy wheels (5), dark tinted rear side window and rear window glass.
