To end the year, we have our very first scoop !!! While browsing the newly revised website this morning, yours truly has stumbled across the production version of the hottest production Polo ever to grace this blue earth, the Polo R WRC street car.

The Polo R WRC street car is launching this year to concide with Volkswagen Motorsports 3 car attack on the World Rally Championship with its 3 drivers of Sebastien Ogier & co-driver Julien Ingrassia, Jari-Matti Latvala & co-driver Miikka Antila and the 3rd team of Andreas Mikkelson & co-driver Mikko Markkula.
I am sure we will hear alot about the Volkswagen Motorsport team & their triumphs across the coming year.

The production Polo R WRC will launch with a 2.0L TSI powering the front wheels most likely with the assistance of XDS extended differential lock from the Golf GTI and Scirocco R models etc. The power output is 220hp / 162kw between 4500-6300 rpm @ 350Nm of torque between 2500-4400rpm through a 6 speed manual gearbox. Top speed is 243km/h, 0-80 is 4.9 seconds and 0-100km/h is 6.4 seconds.

What I can gather from the picture, is instead of a the decal with horziontal line and angle line stretching the body of the concept shown at the GTI Treffen earlier in the year, Volkswagen have toned it down keeping the WRC decal along the bottom of the vehicle and bonnet decal with its blue and grey scheme. The vehicle comes standard with black painted mirror cover, sports WRC orientated front bumper, LED headlights and possibly 17 or 18-inch rims from the concept.

The fuel consumption for the extra urban rating is a very low 6.0L per 100km while the urban cycle is higher at 10.1L per 100km and combined cycle of 7.5L per 100km, the C02 rating is a low 174g/km.

When will Volkswagen reveal the Polo R WRC street version? possibly at the first round of the WRC at Monte Carlo on the 15th of January 2013 is my personal educated guess. Until then keep your eyes on for all the latest.

One Response to “Production street Polo R WRC Revealed on Volkswagen”

  1. Is it a scoop?

“The Polo R WRC costs €33,900 (£27,320) in Germany, but the sad news is that production is limited to left-hand-drive cars, meaning none are earmarked for the UK. VW has also stated that there are no plans for a full-production Polo R in its line-up, but success in the WRC could prompt a Polo R to join the range.”

So in one post they have confirmed the Polo R WRC, in LHD only, an made it even less likely of a normal RHD Polo R
