Audi Australia celebrates its continued support of major Australian film festivals with sponsorship of the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) and its proud partnership with the much anticipated premiere screening of Wayne Blair’s The Sapphires to officially open the festival last night.

In June this year the German luxury carmaker launched its new film sponsorship strategy for 2012 and beyond. With the new sponsorship incorporating all three major Australian Film Festivals, including MIFF, the Sydney Film Festival and the Brisbane International Film Festival.

Audi has also been the naming sponsor of the Audi Festival of German Films in Australia for five years.

The Melbourne International Film Festival was proud that the festival could open with the Australian Premiere of The Sapphires. With Australia’s brightest stars and biggest names in film and entertainment walking the red carpet last night at one of the most anticipated events on the Australian film calendar.

Festival Director Michelle Carey said before the premiere “MIFF is thrilled to be presenting The Sapphires straight from Cannes. Not only is this one of the most anticipated Australian films of the year, a Victorian story and a brilliant filmmaking team, the film will leave audiences on an immense high, ready to kick up their heels at what is sure to be one of the most celebratory parties of the year.”

Audi’s official sponsorship of film began with the Sydney Film Festival and follows up with the Brisbane Film Festival rounding out the sponsorship trio, when it opens on 14 November 2012.

The Audi brand has been involved in the film industry for many years – from the early days of the old-school, edge-of-the-seat car chases like the legendary Ronin, to Mission Impossible, the Transporter films, I Robot, About a Boy and even Iron Man.
